Week 37

Week 37

The bump: I don't feel all the huge but every now and then I get a glance of myself in a mirror and do a double take.

How far along: 37 weeks!

How big is baby: From The Bump - Yay! Baby has reached full term. He likely measures around 18.9 to 20.9 inches and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds. He's gaining about 1/2 ounce each day. He's practicing some skills: inhaling, exhaling, sucking, gripping and blinking. He's getting his first sticky poop (called meconium) ready for his first diaper.

Weight gain/loss: I'm up 3 pounds from last week (oops) for a total of 27.4 pounds gained.

Stretch marks/belly button: Yes to stretch marks and belly button is a stretched out innie. The pain around it has thankfully gone away. My midwife did confirm it was just from stretching/repeatedly being kicked in that spot.

Sleep: I sleep really well when I do sleep, I just don't sleep a lot. I'm usually up early and to bed late despite my best efforts. I don't usually feel all that tired though.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Still on salads although I've only had one. I think it's the idea of a salad. I did have a bad cookies and milk craving that required a late night cookie run.

Movement: Lots of squirming going on it there. He also has hiccups pretty regularly which is getting old for both of us.

What I'm loving: Being so close to the end!

Symptoms: Nothing new going on here.

What I'm looking forward to: The fabulous ladies of San Antonio Bloggers are throwing 5 of us a baby shower tonight. I can't wait to see what they've put together. I really love being a part of such a great group that would throw something like this together for all of us.

Best moment of the week: The ball shot.

How I'm feeling: Like crud, but that's due to a summer cold I've seemed to have picked up. I started feeling it on Friday and pretty much spent the weekend trying to fend it off. Yeah. Not so much. Yesterday and this morning have been rough. It's all in my chest and I have a nasty cough. Hoping to feel better for the baby shower tonight, but we'll see.

That's the Best Ball Shot I've Ever Seen!

I just had my 36 week appointment. I had a blood draw, my GBS test, and the midwife did an in office sono to check his position.

He was head down (yay) and I asked her if while we were at it could we maybe try to get a penis shot. Because yes, I'm 4 weeks from my due date and have yet to see a penis. I won't lie that there has been this teeny tiny part of me that's holding out that this baby could still be a girl. Hi, my name is Faith and I need to see it to believe it. My parents named me after their favorite soap opera character if at helps to explain anything.

I explained to my midwife that John wasn't at our anatomy scan so we didn't get the visual. She laughed and searched around for a penis. Suddenly she exclaimed, "that is the BEST ball shot I've ever seen!" Sure enough there on the screen was a perfect profile of baby boy's balls. Unfortunately it's not the type of machine that prints out pictures so I can't share a picture of my child's balls with you all. I'm sure he'll thank me later.

After the appointment I called John to tell him that I finally had visual confirmation that our not so little Frijole was indeed a boy. He asked if I finally accept it now to which I replied, "Yes. Unless our baby girl has got some balls." This child is part me after all. :)

Week 36

Week 36

The bump: Is made up of this kid's backside. Seriously. He's head down and then likes to lodge his feet under my ribs and stick his butt out. Basically my kid is mooning you all.

How far along: 36 weeks!

How big is baby: From The Bump - Your baby's the size of a honeydew! He's still in the 17.2- to 18.7-inch and 4.2- to 5.8-pound range and continues to beef up. He's getting closer and closer to being able to breathe on his own. His skin is getting smooth and soft and his gums are rigid. His liver and kidneys are in working order. Circulation and immune systems are basically good to go, too.

Weight gain/loss: I'm up .8 pounds from last week for a total of 24.2 pounds gained.

Stretch marks/Belly Button: I actually have this really tender spot next to my belly button. It feels like a bruise, but I swear the other day I felt this hard ball that then rolled away. I'm guessing it's from him kicking the same spot, tearing, or a hernia. Yay! I'm just going to ask at my appointment on Wednesday.

Sleep: It's ok-ish. I do have to get up more to pee now, but usually I can sleep through the night.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Peaches and salads. I've yet to actually have a salad yet.

Movement: All the time. I also think he's getting as tired of having hiccups as I am of him having them.

Symptoms: Cankles, Bloody Nose, Rib Numbness, Midback pain. The back pain is really what gets me the most. I have a pillow on my chair at work to help, but basically either need to lay down or be at this perfect angle that makes doing anything difficult. It's also hard to do in my office since I don't have the ab strength to do it in my office chair. I even resorted to laying on an ice pack on my office floor. It felt fabulous.

What I'm looking forward to: The end? I actually get to see all my maternity pictures and next week we have a blogger baby shower happening for our group of pregnant bloggers.

How I'm feeling: Uncomfortable and grumpy and I'm sure it's just going to get worse from here. I'm trying to take it easy and listen to my body. This weekend I wanted to get so much done, but Saturday my body told me hell to the no, and I spent the whole day laying down. We eventually made it out to dinner and a movie and it almost killed me. (Not really) I did sleep all the way until 8:45 the next morning so I know I was wiped out!

Pregnancy Gear I Love

I still have about 5 weeks to go, but here are a few things that have helped me survive my first pregnancy so far.

Leacho Back 'N Belly Pillow

When I first told friends I was pregnant, the first tip anyone had was, "make sure you get a great body pillow." I absolutely love this thing. Early on, it helped so much with my sciatic pain. Now that my belly is bigger it also offers support for it too. I credit it with my ability to pretty much always sleep through the night. I also like that I can lay on either side without having to take a whole pillow with me. I will say that it is BIG. If you don't have a king size bed I really would not recommend this pillow. It certainly takes up half of our bed. John is not the biggest fan of it for that reason, but understands my love/need for it.

H&M Maternity Tanks

I don't have a picture for this and will H&M PLEASE start offering online shopping already!? I bought a two pack of these while up in Dallas and wish I had bought more. They are nice and long and fit really well. Perfect for layering underneath shirts that are see through or are getting too short.

Coconut Water

Oh leg cramps. One of the many evils of pregnancy. I take my prenatal and eat a banana here and there, but it was not enough to thwart the midnight charlie horses. There are so many brands out there now and I've tried more than one. I usually buy whatever is on sale because it's not the cheapest thing. ALWAYS buy the flavored kind. I'm not kidding. The plain version tastes like feet and you'll hate me for it. The flavored kind usually tastes like whatever flavor is on the box. I don't do these on a regular basis, but if I start having cramps I'll buy a couple and spread them out over the week. The juice box kind that I usually buy are big enough to split between two days, at least that's what I do. They also count towards your water intake so double bonus!

Upsie Belly by Belly Bandit

This is a recent purchase. I have a smaller band that I purchased and should have taken it back. It's too small and makes me look like I just have a big spare tire. The Upsie Belly is nice and wide and doesn't do that. Some of the reviews mention this and I can see how it could be a problem, but because of its width it could be awkward for someone shorter or with a shorter torso. I like the back/hip compression and lift in the front. It also has a pocket to put a cold/hot pack in, but I haven't had to use it yet. Postpartum it can be turned around and used as a belly binder. It's worth the money in my book, but if you're shorter in stature I'd try it on in store before purchasing.

Full Panel Maternity Pants

These are absolutely fabulous. I think full panel pants are like the spanxx of maternity pants. They let it all hang out, but look cute while doing it. My favorites have come from H&M and Motherhood.

Bra Extenders

These are a life saver! I did go up a cup size early on and thankfully (for the moment at least) haven't expanded more in the cup size. Just for comfort's sake though, having an extra clasp on my bra strap is such a great thing. They're usually less than $5 at Target or Walmart so stock up on a few. I have 3 hook and 4 hook bras so I had to buy 2 packs. There's 3 in each though so it's plenty to get your through. I'm lazy and don't like taking them off to put on another bra so it's nice to have extras.

A great Maxi Skirt

Can I just say I don't think I could have survived the summer so far without these. Not only do I get to wear something comfortable, airy, and light, but I don't have to shave my legs. All around score to me.

Week 35

Week 35

and a fun comparison shot starting from day 1!

Untitled

The bump: It actually seems a little smaller this week, but most of the time it just depends on how he is laying.

How far along: 35 weeks

How big is baby: From The Bump: Your baby's the size of a coconut! He's about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. From here on out, he won't get much longer, but he's plumping up. He's now about 4.2 to 5.8 pounds, and he'll put on a pound or more of baby fat before birth. Now, his hearing is fully developed, and he responds best to high-pitched noises. If it's a boy, his testes have probably fully descended.

Weight gain/loss: I'm down a pound this week for a total of 23.4 pounds gained. I think this is mainly due to not being as swollen this week as I was last week, so basically it's all water weight that I lost because there's absolutely no way I lost a pound with all the cookies I've been eating.

Stretch marks and the Belly Button: Yes to the stretch marks. The belly button is still an innie though it's getting more stretched out. It actually looks kind of odd because the stretching makes it look more cavernous than before.

Sleep: It's still going strong, but I have to get up to pee more now.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Still on the sweets, but it's mainly been from fruit. I can not get enough peaches at the moment. In fact, I bought a whole case and will be doing some canning this weekend.

Movement: It doesn't stop. The other day he flipped over twice and it hurt like hell. This weekend John and I were running a bunch of errands. Every time I got back into the car I could tell he wasn't happy to get squished. He'd squirm and kick and neither of us were very happy about it. I can tell that the kicks are more of a, "hey lady! I'm running out of room up in here!"

What I'm loving: I've reached that magical 35 week/35 day marker.

Symptoms: Mid back pain is currently my biggest problem. It's making sitting extremely difficult. If that doesn't happen then the rib numbness kicks in. I asked about the numbness on Wednesday and she wasn't concerned. Thoughts are that it could be from my expanding rib cage (3 inches, but this is from the entire pregnancy. Not sure how much is recent), the baby resting on a nerve, or the increased weight from my bigger boobs. It could also be a combo of any of these. Leg cramps and the occasional bloody nose have also made their appearances again.

What I'm looking forward to: This pregnancy finally being over?

How I'm feeling: Tired. Grumpy. I really think it's more to do with some crummy allergy/sinus stuff I have going on and the back pain. Otherwise I'm usually pretty good.

Random things I didn't know/Problems/Questions: Last week was actually rough. I wasn't feeling well, had this crazy swollen foot, and on Wednesday I ended up in the midwife's office to have my BP checked. It was a little high for me the first time and 20 minutes later was back to normal. Both were still in the normal ranges, I just have really low blood pressure. Everything checked out great in the end, but it still wasn't fun. Especially when John was a good 6 hours away! I've told him that his boss is not allowed to send him anywhere until this baby comes or he's going to have to hear it from me.

Week 34

Week 34

The bump: I swear that some days I'm huge other days I'm small. I know it's just all how he's positioned lately.

How far along: 34 Weeks

How big is baby: Fro m the Bump - The size of a butternut squash. At less than two months to go, he weighs in at about 4.2 pounds to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. He's recognizing and reacting to simple songs, if you're singing them. (If you're not, start! He may find them soothing after birth.) He's also urinating about a pint a day.

Weight gain/loss: I'm up 2 pounds this week for a total of 24.4 pounds.

The belly button: A very stretched out innie still. I'll be surprised if it ever becomes an outie.

Sleep: Still rocking it.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Tacos

Movement: All the time. Kid hasn't left me alone this week.

Symptoms: My mid back has been killing me lately. I'm also still getting the numbness in my ribs.

What I'm looking forward to: The end? Actually, I have my maternity pictures this weekend. Now if I can only figure out what I'm going to wear.

How I'm feeling: I'm getting to that miserable point. Usually by 3 or 4 pm I'm done for the day. If only I could end it there!

Yarn Wreath

I'm late actually making this wreath. I wanted something that I could use for both spring and summer. I won't lie, while I love having some decoration on my front door, storing ten different wreaths for every season is just not something I want to do. So I wanted to make something Springy, but not so much that I couldn't carry it through summer.

Yarn Wreath

If this is your first yarn wreath you can check out my full tutorial here.

You basically just tie on and then spend a good amount of time wrapping.

Originally I had planned on doing felt flowers again, but decided to use some scrap yarn I had and knit a few flowers. The great thing is that you can use either of these patterns with different sized needles and yarn to create different sized flowers.

Yarn Wreath

For the pink flower I used this tutorial. I decided to leave mine open, rather than putting a center piece on mine.

For the white flower I used this pattern:

Cast on 6 stitches
Row 1 - (RS) Knit 3, yarn over, knit 3 = 7 stitches
Row 2 - Knit
Row 3 - (RS) Knit 3, yarn over, knit 4 = 8 stitches
Row 4 - Knit
Row 5 - (RS) Knit 3, yarn over, knit 5 = 9 stitches
Row 6 - Knit
Row 7 - (RS) Knit 3, yarn over, knit 6 = 10 stitches
Row 8 - Knit
Row 9 - (RS) Knit, 3, yarn over, knit 7 = 11 stitches
Row 10 - Knit
Row 11 - (RS) Knit 3, yarn over, knit 8 = 12 stitches
Row 12 - Bind off 6 stitches, knit the 6 leftover stitches

Repeat rows 1 - 12, 4 more times for a total of 5 times.
Bind off all stitches
Weave yarn in and out through the eyelets, pull tightly and secure.

The dark teal one I used the above pattern, but somehow messed it up. I think I miscounted, but was able to roll it up and still use it.

I then hot glued all my flowers on and used a bit of ribbon to create something to hang the wreath from.

Week 33

Week 33

The bump: I usually start off low in the morning and a bit higher as the day goes on.

How far along: 33 weeks

How big is baby: From The Bump - The size of a durian. (Yeah, no idea what that is, but it looks like this crazy prickly thing that I would not want to come out of my body.) He weighs about 4.2 to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. And he may grow up to a full inch this week -- amazing. He's keeping his eyes open while awake. He's also starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing. His bones are hardening. And he going through (more) major brain development -- that's one smart baby!

Weight gain/loss: I'm up 2.4 pounds this week for a total of 22.4 pounds gained so far.

Stretch marks: My stretch marks have stretch marks. Like, even my belly button piercing scar (or giant hole I should say) has a stretch mark. WTF is up with that.

Sleep: I slept until NINE AM Saturday morning! It was glorious! I'm still sleeping like a champ, but it can still take me awhile to actually fall asleep.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Peanut M&Ms and I may have made a slight detour to hit up a Fazoli's. (They closed the ones here)

Movement: This kid is all over the place. I scared a room full of people the other day when my belly suddenly jerked to one side.

What I'm loving: Getting closer to the end!

Symptoms: My cankles were epic this weekend due to an over 6 hour drive to Dallas, the concert, the shower, and a return drive of about 5. They're finally back to normalish today. I've also had this numbness/tingly sensation along my rib cage. It's like my ribs are falling asleep. It's real fun I tell you.

What I'm looking forward to: Hinchman Olympics are this weekend!

Best moment of the week: Despite the suffering from the drive I had so much fun this weekend. The concert was great as was the shower. It was fun to spend time with some friends I don't get to see as much anymore.

How I'm feeling: Still pretty good. I'm happy to have temps out of the 100 degree range.
