Week 11

11 weeks

How far along: 11 weeks

How big is baby: The size of a lime (The Bump) or a Fig (Baby Center). From The Bump: Your fetus is about 1.6 inches long, and she's got about a 1:1 head-to-body ratio. She now weighs in at about .25 ounces. By week 11, her tooth buds, hair follicles and nail beds are forming. Her skin is see-through, but she's on her way to looking more like a baby. Her fingers and toes aren't webbed anymore, and she's moving fluidly and gracefully in there, even though you can't feel it.

Weight gain/loss: This stomach bug I seem to have caught (fingers crossed it's not the flu) caused me to lose 6 pounds. So I'm now down 3 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Stretch marks: None yet.

Sleep: Going good.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: This has been a weird week. I ate eggs and drank coffee on Saturday morning and then later that day I couldn't handle the smell of coffee. It really changes day to day and I think it's more smell aversions than anything.

Movement: None and not expecting it for awhile still.

What I'm loving: Not a lot this week, but I think being sick is making me forget the good things that probably happened.

Symptoms: Smell aversions and exhaustion in the afternoons. Definitely have some bloat going on and I'm already finding fewer and fewer pants to put on.

What I'm looking forward to: The first trimester being over.

Best moment of the week: Finding out friends that have been trying for some time for their second are due the same week as me.

How I'm feeling: It had been a pretty good week until this stomach bug hit. I rotate good and not so good days. It's really hard to not push myself too much on the good days.

Lee Style Party

Back in December just before things got crazy two fabulous bloggers hosted a group of San Antonio Bloggers for a Lee Style Party.

Zoe's Kitchen provided some delicious food.

I realize now I didn't get a picture of the full spread. I don't know how I ended up with a picture of cookies and some sandwiches because they brought a ton of food that was fantastic. Maybe I was too busy eating?

Rachelle and Katy from Lee came armed with a ton of information about Lee's new jeans and how they really aren't your typical "Mom Jeans" that you often think they are.

We discussed our common jean problems and how they're often associated with finding the right cut for your shape.

I learned things like quality stretch jeans shouldn't get baggy by the end of the day, and while it doesn't always apply to tall girls like me, hemming a longer pair of jeans isn't the best idea because the knee placement can get thrown off.

A few weeks before the party we had filled out information about our size and jean problems we experienced. Then Rachelle had us try on different styles in our sizes - yes even tall! She really worked with all of the girls to find the right pair for each of us.

We then got to walk the orange carpet and show off our favorites and get feedback from everyone. Here's me in the pair I ended up taking home:

The back from home later on:

They're the Perfect Fit Mila Bootcut jeans. Best part? There's secret tummy sucker in fabric built into them. Say goodbye to muffin tops!

Here's our group showing off our picks!

Thanks Michelle and Kristina for hosting us all! (and for the group picture Michelle)

Go check out Lee online or find a pair at a Kohl's or Macy's near you. You may be surprised about what you find!

Disclosure: I received a pair of jeans for attending the party. All opinions and views are my own.

Week 10 and My First Midwife Visit

Last week I had my first visit with the midwife. I absolutely loved her. They switch us around between the 4 in the practice, but I really hope I get to see her more or choose her if that becomes an option.

Best part of the visit is that we finally got to see and hear little Frijole:

Meet little 9 week and 1 day old Frijole!

I let the midwife know about my 46 day cycles which basically meant that I lost 10 days of my pregnancy. I kind of expected it, but it was still a bit of a bummer. So my official due date is now August 20th.

Here I am through the weeks:

Weeks 5-10

I plan on doing a weekly update from here on out so here we go!

How far along: 10 weeks (again it feels like!)

How big is baby: The size of a prune or 1.2 inches long and .14 ounces.

Weight gain/loss: 3 pounds so far.

Stretch marks: None yet.

Sleep: I sleep ok for the most part. I usually wake up around 4 am to pee. Sometimes I can't fall back asleep right away, other times I'm ok.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Basically if I think about it I want it. It's meant late night runs to Wendy's and throwing dinner plans out the door for a bucket of fried chicken.

So far eggs are the only things I can't really eat. I did eat one of John's omelets this weekend and did ok. I think it was mainly because I piled it full of veggies, ham and cheese. My main aversion is to strong smells. I made a crockpot full of carnitas the other night, and something about their smell made me not want anything to do with them. I'm also not interested in coffee and sometimes the smell can get to me.

Mornings are the hardest time for me. I usually don't want to eat a thing, but try to eat a piece of fruit, I usually end up eating a snack of some type midmorning, lunch I'm good, but sometimes I'm so full I don't want dinner. Not getting too full is sometimes a challenge. If I eat to much I am MISERABLE.

Movement: None and not expecting it for awhile still.

What I'm loving: Naps?

Symptoms: Exhaustion. Having to pee all the time. I can smell EVERYTHING.

What I'm looking forward to: Yesterday was the first day I actually thought about doing something. Like maybe I will do a garden after all.

Best moment of the week: Finally getting to "meet" Frijole.

How I'm feeling: I had thought I had hit a turning point, but it turned out I was just finally over my allergies. Things were rough energy and eating wise. My midwife assured a lot of things for me and told me sometimes weeks 9-12 are the toughest. Basically hoping I'll get over this hump soon and have a little bit of normalcy. By normalcy I mean, not coming home from work and going straight to bed.

Oh yeah, the Holidays Happened

I haven't had a ton of energy lately. Horrible allergies going on around here on top of general first trimester yuck has not allowed me to do much other than lay in bed and nap. I'm not kidding, the other day I had to sit down while making dinner. It was a very sad day.

So now that I'm having a moment of I feel slightly ok, I bring you my holiday round up.

Aside from the tree, this was all the decorating we did for Christmas. It was bright and festive and now I think the house feels empty without it.

December would not be complete without a cookie exchange:

The nut table for those with allergies.

The food spread.

Christmas Eve my parents and grandpa arrived (the entire family would arrive the next day). John, my mom, grandpa and I went out to look at lights.

This house had lights timed to music. See the 20 second video below.

Christmas morning started off with John and I exchanging stockings while waiting for the rest of my family to arrive.

Teasing Reese:

Oh to be a small child and have a giant pile of presents:

To be a kid and have a giant mountain of presents.

My mom bought all of us these Red Neck Wine Glasses.

I think this is John's favorite present.

My mom told me about a chair that she has been wanting. Typical of my dad, he shows up and says he hasn't gotten her anything because she said she didn't want anything. I knew she didn't want anything because she wanted the rest of the furniture for the living room. I snuck away, and two Pier Ones later, had acquired the chair. The funny thing is that she passed by the wrapped chair multiple times and had no idea what it was.

To round out the holiday season we rang in the New Year at Karl and Julie's.

Getting ready for our local ball drop.

Happy New Years from us!

I'd normall say, "hope you all had a happy holiday season as well," but seeing as how I'm probably the last blogger out there to recap their Christmas, I already know the answer! So Happy New Year to you all!

Things I Never Knew About the First Trimester

How damn tired I would be all the time. As in multiple naps may be required to make it through the day tired.

Oh my god do my boobs hurt.

That I'd have to pee all the time.

Or about the paralyzing fear that you are going to pee yourself every time you cough or sneeze.

My hips! Oh how they hurt!

That no matter how hungry I may be, I will not be able to eat very much.

Eating too much basically means I'm up all night.

Do not even think about a food item or it will turn into MUST HAVE NOW.

Whatever happened to sleeping through the night?

How even though your Dr okayed you taking a medication seeing it listed as a "no" in one of those pregnancy books your husband brought home will still make you crazy.

While I knew it would happen, but just how annoying it can be when people try to make your pregnancy their pregnancy and will suddenly lose all boundaries.

How quickly perspective can change on things.

That even though I've been blessed with no morning sickness, my gag reflex is still on high alert.

The tears. How they can turn on over every little thing or for no reason whatsoever.

And I'm sure there are just more things to come.

On Finding Out

I wrote this post on December 20th, the day I found out.

Yesterday I had the, “hmmmm…..I wonder if I should pee on a stick” feeling. I had also been having very normal “I’m going to start my period any second now” feelings for several days which is also totally normal for me. I ran out of birth control back in June, but it wasn’t until August that my good old friend decided to return. I had been tracking my periods on an app on my phone, but had you asked me, I would have said they were completely random. Yesterday I pulled the app up because I was supposed to have started, but hadn’t gotten anything. I went back and looked at the days and it turns out I’ve started on the 3rd or the 19th since August. So much for random!

So then came the girl math. If my cycles were more on the 45 day range than the 28 day range and you’re not really supposed to test until around the 4th day before you miss then that should be day 24 according to the “norm” so if I was at 45 then that was 3 weeks AFTER when you could get a result so surely if I peed on a stick then it should be right. Right? (Yes, girl math is a real thing and always a run on sentence.)

I decided to wait until the next day though just in case my period decided to show that night. It didn’t.

This morning I gave it a thought, but was like no, maybe the app is wrong. Maybe I should give it another day. Just as I was about to head out the door I decided, what the hell! Let’s just get this over with and went and peed on a stick. Except I swear I barely peed on the thing. I thought I had to go, but not so much. So I sat there and waited and watched the line slowly creep into the first oval, and thought, I guess it was just enough pee! So much for that heavy stream crap! Then it slowly creeped into the second oval and another big bright line appeared.

OH MY GOD. I guess the girl math was right because that was no itty bitty questionable line.

After a minute of internal holy crap, and, WAIT NO MORE SHINER CHEER!? I thought, how am I going to tell John! Can I keep this a secret until tonight? OH MY GOD.

I ran into the kitchen (it has better light) and quickly snapped a picture of the test.

I decided that looked boring so a made a little sign and took another (ok 5).

A tiny back story here. I bought this Star Wars picture frame forever ago. Maybe a year or more with the thought of it being a great way to tell John whenever we finally go around to having kids. Well on Monday night John decided it was time to get ALL THE BOXES OUT OF THE GARAGE. He wanted to be unpacked. Well that frame was in one of the boxes and he found it. He brings it in and says “I can’t believe you bought this and have been holding out on me!” He hugs it and says that he’s going to put a family picture in it. I replied that he should give it to me and that I’d put a picture in it.

Little did I know I’d have something to put in it so soon.

John's first response when I gave it to him that night? "Seriously?" Yes. Seriously. We're pregnant!

I even did the digital just for fun.

Yep. Seriously.
