Conversations with my 6 year old Nephew

I’ve been sick for almost two weeks now. Allergies the first go around and then a cold the next. Add the holidays and I’m flat out exhausted. I have about a million and one posts to write, but in the meantime I’ll share conversations with my 6 year old nephew that I had over Christmas.

J: Knock knock
Me: Who’s there?
J: Boo
Me: Boo Who?
J: Why you crying? *dies laughing*

J: Knock knock
Me: Who’s there?
J: Poop
Me: Poop who?
J: Poop in your underwear!

Followed by 20 other poop and pee knock knock jokes.

J: So if a mommy has a baby in her belly how does she eat?
Me: (Oh I hope your parents have talked to you about this) Well, the baby is in a different part of the mommy’s belly. It’s not in her stomach.
J: Oh, like her legs.
Me: Uh. Yeah. Like her legs. (Whew)

J: *points to a movie on the Red Box* You can buy me that movie for my birthday.
Me: You just had your birthday. It’s going to be a whole year until your next one.
J: Well you can buy it for me before then.
Me: Oh I can?
J: Yeah. What you do is get the case and make sure it has the CD in it and then you can drive to my house and I’ll look for you out the window and then I’ll come outside and get it!

J: Ok, there are some rules about hanging out with me. The first one is that you can’t make me fall. (That’s as far as we got so I’m not sure what the other rules are)

J: * gets up to walk around the table to me*
His mom & dad: Where are you going? Go and sit down.
J: *sad pouty face* I wanted to tell her something
Me: What were you going to tell me that you couldn’t tell me from over there?
J: I was going to say that you are really beautiful.
Me: *heart melts*

The Good List All That Glitters

GGL-allthatglitters

I'm back again today with another fabulous group of bloggers sharing all our favorite shiny objects.

The holidays are the perfect time of year to shine, not just at Christmas, but also while ringing in the New Year. Here are a few of my favorite things to help you shine this holiday season:

All that Glitters

1. Lulu Townsend Satin Bow Glitter Clutch
A great clutch can sometimes be the best accessory a girl needs. I love the satin bow on this one.

2. Stardust Eyeshadow by Urban Decay
You can't beat a bold eyeshadow. Pair it with the Urban Decay Primer Potion from my original good list for all night staying power.

3. Jimmy Choo Biel Glitter Wedge Pump
Make a statement with these gorgeous wedges.

4. Tart with a Heart Glitter Nail Polish by Butter London
Make your nails shine with this beautiful pink nail polish. Plus, I love the name!

5. Apt. 9 Jet Simulated Crystal Dome Stretch Ring
Even if glitter isn't your thing, a sparkly cocktail ring is a must have during the holiday season.

Next stop on our trail of glitter is Jessica over at Gin and Juice Boxes. Hop on over there to check out her sparkle!

Wassailfest

Last week John and I went to our first Wassailfest in New Braunfels.

What’s Wassailfest? Basically they shut down downtown New Braunfels and you walk around sampling different types of wassail. Wassail is mulled cider and vendors offer “leaded” and “unleaded” versions. At the end of the night you can vote for your favorite wassail.

Downtown New Braunfels is beautifully decorated this time of year.

There are also plenty of food vendors and lots of music.

John and I did enjoy a pork chop on a stick, but then headed to the Husiache for dinner where we met a friendly llama named Tahoe.

We sampled around 10-15 types of wassail, but there were over 40 different vendors to try.

It was a fun and mostly free evening. I recommend going early because the streets were packed once we finished dinner, and the lines for wassail had gotten really long. I had wanted to go for a long time, but always forgot about it until after the event had happened. Be sure to check it out next December!

The Good List of Lush Libations

GoodList-Cocktails

Today I'm back with another group of wonderful ladies sharing some of our favorite holiday beverages. Miss our gift guides last week? You can find all the link ups here.

Here are two of my favorite lush libations during the holidays:

When John and I were in Prague last year I discovered hot wine, more commonly known as mulled wine, or in the the Czech Republic, Svařák. Yes, I know what you're thinking. Hot wine? Ew. How could that possibly be good? Trust me, it is. It's delicious and wonderful, especially on a cold day. Here's the recipe:

Untitled

1 liter of cheap red wine, you don't need to use the good stuff here
1/3 cup of sugar (or to taste)
1 cinnamon stick
5 whole cloves
half a lemon, sliced

Heat all the ingredients until hot, but do not let it boil. Once it's warm, add the sliced lemon to the pot and serve.

Some recipes (and depending on the country) will also add other liquors, such as brandy. I like the plain and simple approach, but the great thing about this recipe is that you can add spices to suit you.

I also saw this at HEB last night. Just warm on the stove and pretend you made from scratch. This is German Glühwein. Just be sure to hide the bottle so no one knows you didn't make it yourself.

Untitled

My other lush libation to share is another warm beverage, hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps. When we host Christmas at our house, John, my brothers, and I usually stay up late playing board games and drinking spiked hot chocolate. At least until we get too loud and one of my parents comes out of the guest room and yells at us for making too much noise.

Untitled

I'm partial to Mexican hot chocolate, but really any kind will do. Then just add a little shot of peppermint schnapps and enjoy! Just don't let the little ones get ahold of mom's chocolate!

Next up, Ellen at Bloom Maternity has a great holiday mocktail to share with you all! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the hop!

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

Right now this is about all the Christmas we can muster. Maybe a bit more as the week goes on, but there are still plenty of boxes to unpack (as you can see in the pictures).

I'm kind of in love with the mirrored wall, gold veins and all.

The only new ornament this year. I'm still on the hunt for a "New Home" one.

You can see our tree from the street and it's a bit of cheer in the evenings when I drive up. Love it.
