We've had quite a bit of rain lately and with that has come the weeds.
Needless to say it's been a bit since we've mowed the backyard. One because of the rain and two because we've been out of town. I'm not lying, 2 foot dandelions have sprouted out of nowhere while we were gone.
I was outside this evening taking care of the garden, cleaning the coop and watching the chickens go to town on the weeds (a plus side to having chickens). All the sudden I noticed these:
Do you see them? They're a bit harder here:
How about now?
Yes, tomato plants if you haven't guessed already. There are 9 tomato plants sprouting in my backyard! John is threatening to mow them down tomorrow and I'm begging him not to. Not that I know what to do with them. There are already 11 in my garden (yes I went tomato crazy this year). My dad asked me to transplant a few and give them some. I have absolutely no idea what type they are so I kind of want to see what sprouts. I grew three types last year so I'm guessing it's one of those. John thinks the chickens must have eaten the tomatoes, pooped out the seeds and now they're growing. That's the best idea I could come up with because I really have no idea how they could have got there.
Hopefully John doesn't mow them down tomorrow so I can see what grows. I've promised to hand weed the area around them if he leaves them be. It could be a fun experiment!
