Mere minutes after finishing our 4 hour morning tour of the major parts of the city we're off to climb the massive hill to Prague Castle for a guided tour with a Czech local named Karel. We make it to the top just in time to catch the changing of the guard

and some beautiful views of the city.

First stop, the Statue of a Naked Boy. Supposedly rubbing his penis was good luck or something.

St. George's Basilica

Prague Castle and particularly the Vitus Cathedral were breathtakingly beautiful, perfect and rich in history.

The stained glass gave the whole interior of the cathedral this pinkish hue.

Entrance to the castle

Schwarzenberg Palace

Archbishop's Palace

Loreto Santa Casa

We finished the tour just as the sun started to set over Prague.

After the tour, we went in search of a local brewery and chanced to meet up with some other travelers; 2 Australians, a Pole, a Russian, and 2 Americans. We all hit it off so well we have dinner and beer together at the Strahov Monastery, which is famous for their beer)
Biggest pitcher ever

Goulash and meat and cheese for dinner

and then walk back into Old Town in search of another pub and more great Czech beer.

We stumble into bed with big happy grins on our faces.
I'm loving these Prague pictures! I spent a week there when lived in Germany and these pics are taking me back. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, don't you LOVE the instant friends you make when you travel? Seriously, that is one of my favorite things about traveling.
Haha - I think that the "rub his penis for luck" thing sounds like something the locals made up to make the tourists look ridiculous!
ReplyDeletePrague looks beautiful though! I'm loving the colours inside the cathedral!
Kristal - I LOVED Prague. It's so gorgeous! I'm jealous you got to spend a week there. I'm friends with all the people we met on FB. The two Australian guys are on an around the world trip. Can I start my life over?
ReplyDeleteKara - the whole cathedral was like that. You kind of just come up on it when you reach the top of the hill. They also had a bunch of stuff in that city that you were supposed to rub. Maybe they're kind of pervy? LOL
Beautiful photos Faith! These are making me have a serious case of wanderlust!
ReplyDeleteI lived in Prague for a year (taught English in a public high school) - it was a great year. Then I moved to Budapest for the next year. :) The beer in both places is the greatest!
