Ten on Tuesday

1. Favorite book(s) when you were a child and why?
Ones that stick out are Tikki Tikki Tembo, Rikki Tikki Tavi (maybe I just really like the names of those two books....), and Love You Forever which I actually bought in college because I enjoyed the book so much. It's a great one to read to your kids (if you've got 'em). Also anything by Shel Silverstein - Where the Sidewalk Ends and The Giving Tree come to mind.

2. First “grown-up” book you remember reading (i.e. written for adolescents or with adult themes, such as The Outsiders or Catcher in the Rye). Brave New World and only because we watched The Matrix in class afterwards. My crazy English teacher believed there was an important tie in.

3. Favorite movie that came from a book (even if you didn’t read the book and just love the movie). A League of Their Own

4. Movie that you loved so much that you WISHED there was a book out so that you could find out more about the movie.
Labyrinth. I loved that movie. John had never seen it until recently.

5. Worst book you’ve ever read?
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel. It PAINED me to read this book. I can't even tell you what it was about. I'm not one to give up on a book though. It took me 4 tries to finally get through Catch 22, but I did it.

6. Book that everyone raves about that you either a) haven’t read and feel slightly dumb for not having read it or b) have tried to read and hated and so feel slightly dumb that everyone is getting something you don’t.
Everyone talks about the Twilight series and I absolutely refuse to read it. Maybe one day, when the obsession with it dies down. I was also late to start Harry Potter and while I'm glad I didn't have to wait as long as some people for the new books to come out, I wish I had read them sooner.

7. If you were forced to choose only 3 books that you could read for the rest of your life, which ones would they be? (Or if you were stranded on a desert island, which 3 books would you want there with you?). Ummm....can I choose 1 book and 3 series of books? They would be Lamb, The Harry Potter Series (maybe just book 5 if I had to choose one) and the Chronicles of Narnia.

8. Name one book that if you could recommend that everyone you know read, what is it? Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. I seriously loved this book. You have to have the sense of humor of a 13 year old boy though and either need to know something about the Bible or have someone around you that does because you'll probably have a ton of questions.

9. What is your “guilty pleasure” reading?

Chick Lit. I pretty much go into Half Price and buy whatever book cover has some pink in it.

10. What book (excepting the Bible or other major document of your religion/faith) has changed your outlook on life the most?
Hmmmm.....I don't really have one. I read way too much fiction.

  1. Love Rikki Tikki...I just liked saying it! I didn't know A League of Their Own was based off a book. You should really read Twilight..it's worth it.

  2. You made me google. The book was put out at the same time as the movie. What can I say, I was 11 when I read the book. A League of Their Own was based on a documentary done by the son of one of the women that played baseball during that time.

  3. I also didn't know A League of Their Own was a book. I need to read it!

I haven't read Harry Potter but have read Twilight- they are good books. You won't regret it. I read them last March- well into the craze. I'm glad I read them.

Your header always makes me happy.
