A Few Goals

Not resolutions or anything, just some things I plan on focusing on this year like:

Continuing to work on my 101 in 1001 list. I'm doing ok, but could be doing better.

Work on paying off some serious debt. I spent most of yesterday working on a budget for us. I do this every year. Last year I didn't start until March and gave up that same month so hopefully I'll make it farther this year. We need to cut back on going out quite a bit. This includes going to the movies, going out for drinks or dinner with friends and eating out during the week. It's currently what we spend the most of our money on (aside from normal bills that is). If we cut back just a bit we'd save a lot. So sorry guys if we start turning down invites this year! John also gets a nice raise at the end of the month. I plan on putting every last penny of that raise towards credit card debt. My goal is to have a high limit, high interest rate card paid down by the end of the year. Also involving debt is kids. John wants a baby like yesterday. I tell him, when I'm 30. One of my main issues with having kids right now is how much debt we have. While I know you will never have enough money for your kids, I'd like to at least be in a better financial situation than we're in. I told John that my goal is to have one of those cards paid off before we start trying. I think having a more feasible goal such as that helps to communicate my feelings about when I'd like to start a family to him a little better.

Which is a third goal. John and I need to work more on our communication. For two people that talk a lot it's sometimes a big issue for us.

Find a new job is next on the list (well really kind of first).
I don't talk a whole lot about my job on here, but I need to find something else. I absolutely love what I do (well portions of it, it's all the extra crap that gets dumped on my that I don't exactly appreciate) but I don't like where I do it or the environment in which I do it. I've been searching for awhile, but really need to buckle down a get serious about it. I can't be here for another year.

Stay healthy. I started Weight Watchers about 3 months ago and have been going to the gym regularly since last February (except for the 2 months when things got all crazy around the holidays, weddings, and all the deaths in the family). I currently weigh .2 pounds more than I did when I started WW 3 months ago and about 2 pounds more than when I started the gym nearly a year ago. I'm actually 12 pounds more than I was when I did WW the first time in 2006. So in the last 3 years I lost 26 pounds and then gained 38. Yikes. I know I'm facing a few more challenges than I was 3 years ago and I'd like to make myself feel better by thinking if I hadn't been doing things like going to the gym I'd probably weigh a lot more, but I don't know if those are really excuses. It is frustrating that I lose a tiny bit each week only to gain it back the 3rd week. I'm going to get better about tracking my food (I admit to half-assing it) and I'm going to try to add in an extra day each week at the gym. I'm also one of those insanely fast eaters so another goal is to slow it down so I can tell when I'm full. While I'm usually good at portion control, if I'm full before I eat it all, why should I continue eating? So, I'm going to throw that bit into the mix as well. I'm hoping my new thyroid meds will help a bit, but I'm not really counting on them. Hopefully the increased gym time, better tracking and slower eating will help get some kind of results! (I'd take almost anything right now!)

So that's what I'll be working on this year. I'll hopefully blog a lot about these (you know since I won't have any interesting going out stories as often) and I hope you all stick around to check out my progress every now and then. Either way, I'm excited about a new year and the new prospects it brings!

  2. I'm a fast eater too! It's so hard to make myself slow down, especially when I have a fast eating husband. Good luck on all your goals!
